These black-and-white photographs bring together landscapes made over many years. Water, trees, hills and distant shores recur, alongside traces of human presence: boats, fences, roads and rows of pilings. I’m drawn to the way a few elements can give shape and character to an otherwise open view.

Working in monochrome allows me to concentrate on light, tone and the relationships between forms. Weather and long exposures sometimes soften the scene, while a small detail gives the eye somewhere to settle. Through these photographs, I try to convey what held my attention in each place and leave room for viewers to make discoveries of their own.
